New Boy Scout
Handbook:
Also, the Brand
New Twelveth Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook has
been released. There are changes in
requirements for most scout ranks.
These new
requirements must be put to use as of January 1, 2009. From page 443 of the new handbook:
"The rank
requirements in this book are official as of January 1, 2010.
If a Scout has
started work toward a rank before that date using requirements that were
current before January 1, 2010, he may complete that rank only using the old
requirements. Any progress toward a rank
that is begun after January 1, 2010, must use the requirements as they are
presented in this Handbook or in the Boy Scout Requirements book."
Some quick
examples of the changes (not a complete summary):
Scout Spirit
requirement is better defined for all ranks EDGE Teaching skills demonstration
is required for Tenderfoot and Life Scout Ranks Second & First Class
Swimming test requirements can NO LONGER be waived by the troop committee.
